This is a simple reading comprehension activity for elementary school students. The appropriate grade level would depend, of course, on the actual reading level of an individual student.
This is why we’ve included multiple versions of the passage with differentiated vocabulary, assessment items, and text features.
The first is the standard version–the original passage and questions.
The second is a version with key words highlighted, which can be helpful for a student who may need some support during the activity.
The third version is one for more advanced readers. It has a higher-level vocabulary as well as differentiated questions that require additional information not included in the text.
Another version has the slightly more advanced passage but the same questions as the standard version.
A pdf version of each is included and a .docx version of the more advanced versions are included (which can be copied, simplified, and used however you’d like in your classroom).
An additional black and white version of the standard text is also included.
If this is confusing, just know you have a printable pdf of every version and an actual .docx file you can edit to meet your needs.
